Praise Be

Hey guys it’s Gebria and I am finally done. Ending this project will be completely bittersweet because the process was so stressful but now that I know more I wish I can go back and do so much extra. Thanks for following me through trial and error, enjoy!

Final Decision

Hey guys so good news! Sofia, my partner agreed to helping me with one of the people for my double page spread. My friend Alyssa and Hannah agreed to help me sometime through Tuesday-Thursday, I just have to catch them before or after their or my practice, but it'll work out fine.

Also, after narrowing my pictures down here are the final three.

I decided to go with the one having Natasha holding her hand up. I'll have the edited version uploaded this week. My friends and I thought that it looked super cute. I'm almost done with my table of contents so during class I can finish it up and begin my CCR which I promise myself it will be well thought out. Looking back on when I first got this project I swore that it was going to be a breeze, boy was I wrong. There's so much research involved and when I have so many ideas it's kind of hard to decide which one to go through with. Besides that, my project is not done and I have to keep working to my best ability until that due date!

My Muse Natasha

So today Natasha came over, surprisingly but not really surprisingly she told me that she had forgotten about our appointment. Thankfully she had to drop her sister off at karate so she was driving by my neighborhood and remembered then and there.

Another thing I'm thankful for is how Natasha is always dressed to impress. I thought she was going to come in sweats and a tshirt but she came in the cutest top and skirt. Not too formal yet the perfect amount of casual. It was a totally summer look with the yellow. Now onto the “photo shoot”.

I used the poster board that my mom bought me as a background because I didn't entirely want the street in my photo. I taped the board to my garage and wasn't getting the lighting that I wanted. After a few pictures we decided to hang the poster board up on a tree and Natasha helped tremendously and didn't make it look like she was holding the poster up herself.

Also, shoutout to my sister for making Natasha laugh countless amounts of times for me to get that playful sort of look that I was going for. I'll have my favorite pictures of Natasha attached and I'll show you guys my favorite one tomorrow!

Group Critiques

This week I participated in my first group critique for our projects. Last group critique I was on a field trip and the other day I tried to come to class but my body couldn't make it past first hour.

I'm a very indecisive person but I was glad that I was out with the people I was paired with. They're super creative and their ideas were actually hilarious, with a hint of dangerous. My partners helped me with my quiz. I was unsure of how to make my quiz look, so they all mentioned what I was thinking; the font color. The font color to my quiz was really blended into the background. I decided to add shadow to the font and add a background of a sort of opaque purple.

They also helped me decide on what the next page of my double page spread should be. I decided finally to have my friends all with different color face mask as planned, but the colors will be bordering each other in a 2x2. I plan to have all the pictures by Thursday and make it as if they had a contest where they submitted their best pictures with the mask and individual experience with the mask itself. One of my friends is coming on Saturday morning so hopefully it goes well!

Almost final cover page

My mom and sister went to A.C. Moore and she got me plain poster boards for backgrounds for my pictures on the double page spread. The boards were kind of neon but I can edit to make the background itself softer. Another alternative is painting or putting paint on the posters. Almost all my friends were on vacation and when I was with my friends we were usually at some place eating. But spring break is now over so I have to get my friends to quickly take this picture for me.

During my free time, I was looking at tips online to help enhance the quality of your pictures. One that was super cool was to take foil, wrap it around a box and put it below/at an angle from your subject in the picture. It helps with light quality I guess because the foil makes the light bounce essentially.

Here's my cover, but I'm not sure on what to put for the headlines. I know that Thursday we meet again in groups, so I can ask my peers on how to help me with that and other aspects that I'm not sure about regarding my project as a whole.

Milk Bath pictures

Here are my favorite pictures from our shoot.

The milk looked kind of weary so I figured I could put a filter and increase the exposure to make it look more white and less diluted. Majority of the pictures that I chose had my cousin “looking” up or straight. I remember during class that my teacher pointed out very successful magazine covers and all of them had the model staring directly at the consumer, which I believe helps create a better connection between the product and customer. From this article, Laura Sherman gathers her pick on the best magazine covers within half of the decade, one thing they all have in common is their eye contact, staring directly straight, where their eyes can easily meet with the consumer on the shelf.

I've been using this app called over and vsco. Over is really good at helping me collect the right colors for fonts and different effects for my pictures. I used over for my skin care quiz as well. So far I have the edited picture that I'm going to use for my cover. I increased exposure and used warmer tones, since it is a near summer edition and I decided on the month of May.

I photoshopped my cousins body just a little because no matter how much we say that we prefer natural bodies, it's still the slimmer models who take up the majority of the runway. I also made her skin smoother and the body suite brighter and evenly toned.
